File structure in 3DPrinterOS

Files and Projects in 3DPrinterOS

In addition to 3D printer management, 3DPrinterOS provides a full solution for print job preparation.

So it is very important that you can store and process your files from the cloud.

Files

The Files page is the starting point of your 3DPrinterOS journey. For example, your new account has default files from 3DPrinterOS.

File structure

A File has the following information columns:

  1. File Preview
  2. File Name
  3. File Type
Hovering the cursor on the file type tag will shed more light on it's details.
In case of hovering over the STL text, it will display the Max dimensions and Model Volume
When you're hovering over the Gcode field then you're able to see the Printer type, Layer Height, Bed temperature, Length(of material needed), Cost (when in an Organization), material needed for Extruder 1 , material needed for Extruder 2, Estimated print time
Clicking on the File Type tag will open the apps' execution log. That may be very useful when you're troubleshooting issues.
  4. The ! icon may also appear sometimes. Hovering over it can tell you what issues did you have with file processing.
The rendering issue is not critical when printing. E.g. gCode Render issue(above) will not affect the quality of the print
  5. Estimated time (for gcodes only), file size, when and by whom it was uploaded
  6. Action buttons:
    1. For STL files: Layout, Slice
    2. For Gcode files: Preview, Print
    3. For Cad files: Convert – launches Magic Fix app, that will convert your CAD model into an STL
  7. 3 Dot menu with other actions
Clicking on the file row opens the Viewer app. STLEditor will be used for .STL files and the Toolpath Viewer will be used for .gcode files.

How to upload a new file
You can simply drag and drop the file from your computer into the Files table.
  1. Use Add files button at the top-right corner
  2. A Drop Zone will appear
You can either drag and drop or Select the file from the Computer
  3. The uploaded file will appear in your Files page
You need to select a Printer for .gcode files before you can use it further.

Share a file

You can share a file with any 3DPrinterOS user or invite a new user by sharing the file with them.

Shared files can't be downloaded. You can also specify how many times a user be able to print the shared file.

In order to share a file:

  1. Click the 3 dot menu button next to the file you want to share, and select Share.
  2. The dialog window will pop up. Please, specify the user's email. You can specify multiple emails, divided by a comma.
Quantity stands for security reasons. I.e. Specifying quantity = 1, for the .gcode file means that the user will only be able to print the file once.
If you've entered an email without a 3DPrinterOS account then, a new window will appear with the possibility to invite that person to 3DPrinterOS.
Workgroup sharing is available only for organizational license users on 3DPrinterOS. It allows to select the workgroup and share a file/project with all its members.
  3. A shared file will appear on my files page of the recipient with the specified name of the user who has shared it.
Download

You can download all your files. The only exception is that you can only download the files that you have access to.

In order to download a file, click on the three dot menu button next to the file and select download.

Rename

In order to rename a file, click the three dot menu button next to the file and select Edit.

The dialog window with the file name field will appear.

Actions for multiple files

You can Print, Move to Project, Copy to Project or Delete files in bulk.

How to select multiple files?

  1. Hover over the file row and the selection checkbox will appear on the left
  2. After Selecting a file, a checkbox will appear next to each file.
  3. All the possible actions will appear at the bottom of the page
The checkbox on the left will select all files in the files page or all files in the project

Projects

After you modify your STL model and save it – a new file will be created. The original file and the new one will go to the newly created project.

After you've sliced or repaired the file, a new project will also be created.

A project is basically a version history of the file.

How to upload a file into the project

Use the + button in the project header in order to select files from your computer.

Or you can simply drag and drop the file into the page, dropping it exactly in the project you want.

How to Create a new project

You can create a new project by clicking the three dot menu at the top-right corner of the Projects page.

An empty project will appear after you've done so

You need to specify the name, select a color and upload a file by clicking on the Drop zone or simply by drag and dropping the file into it.

Project color – what does it stand for?

If you want to distinguish a project form the other ones, then it would make sense to define a color for the project.

  1. When creating a new project
  2. Click Edit in the project header line

Share a project

Sharing projects is a great way to collaborate with someone.

In order to share a project

  1. Find the Share button next to the project
  2. Specify email
  3. Click Share. And Shared project will appear on the recipient's Projects page
Shared projects can't be edited or shared further. The absence of these 2 buttons distinguished shared project
